About the GPA Calculator

Our free GPA calculator computes your Grade Point Average from your course grades and credit hours. You can add multiple courses, choose a 4.0 or 5.0 scale (or 100-point scale), and see your cumulative GPA, total credits, and grade distribution. Many Australian and international universities use a 4.0 or 7.0 scale—this calculator supports the 4.0 and 5.0 scales commonly used in the US and elsewhere. If your institution uses a 7.0 scale, you may need to convert grades first or check your university's GPA formula.

How GPA is calculated: For each course, multiply the grade point (e.g. A = 4.0) by the credit hours. Sum all those products and divide by the total credit hours. The result is your GPA. Weighted (5.0) scales give higher points for honours or advanced courses. Enter only completed courses with final grades; leave in-progress or pass/fail courses out unless your institution includes them in GPA.

Frequently Asked Questions About GPA

What is a good GPA?

On a 4.0 scale, 3.0–3.5 is often considered good, 3.5–4.0 very good to excellent. Requirements vary by university and program. Check your institution's policy for honours, scholarships, or graduate entry.

What is the difference between 4.0 and 5.0 scale?

The 4.0 scale is unweighted (max 4.0). The 5.0 scale is often weighted, giving extra points for advanced or AP courses. Select the scale your school or application system uses.

Does this work for Australian universities?

Many Australian universities use a 7.0 GPA scale or different grading (e.g. HD, D, C, P). This calculator uses 4.0/5.0 letter grades. If your transcript shows letter grades and credit points, you can map them to the 4.0 scale; otherwise check your institution's GPA calculation method.
